Ok, ok! If you are finding this review and haven't read the other ones, go get them first and read them in order. Its a necessity.I have become a big fan of JF Perkins and this series of novellas he has been producing. I truly can't wait patiently for the next installment to arrive.
I wouldn't recommend it lightly and truly do feel if you are not following this series, you are missing out.
As I have said before this is a very refreshing post-apocalyptic series that goes beyond the norm of post-apocalyptic books.
Again, like the last installment, the "action" has picked up with more need to fire weapons and more danger like would be expected in a post-apocalyptic book; however, the greatness of humanity still shines true as I hope it would in such a situation.
Now, I did say that I don't care for sappy love stories in a previous review and I commented on how well the author had placed the starting of a little love story into the book without turning it into a sappy romance novel and keeping it apocalyptic but this book didn't have any of the romance story in it at all this time and I missed it even though this was still a great read. I hope it returns as the author has done a great job with that part of the story and has peeked my interest or perhaps I am just getting soft and mushy in my middle age. I am beginning to get a little crush on that fiery red-head in this series but don't tell my wife cause my wife is a little hottie and I am quite ugly so she can do much better with ease. No need for you all to tempt her by telling my secretes.
Ok stop reading these reviews, go back to book one and get started on this series. I truly think you will be glad you did.

Renewal 4 Down on the River eBook JF Perkins Reviews
JF Perkins and "Bill" are two of the greatest story tellers. I was immediately drawn to the characters, and became a part of the world in which they lived. It is quickly evident that this is more than your typical action and adventure story. And while I enjoy good post apocalypse and dystopian story, Renewal is much more than the dark prophecy of a doomed future of many other books. I understood his careful portrayals of events that can lead people to the lost of their humanity, and how in the mist of the lost of everything known values such as love, family, and friendship can still prevail. I appreciated the well thought out survival plans Perkins gave his characters, and how he showed the greatest resources are not the weapons you gather. Thank you for taking me on this journey and reminding me of our potential of our race.
As to the fact that this story has been delivered in 10 affordable installments...I was starting my second part when I realized that my story would cost me as much a full priced book. By the end of that volume I was sure I was getting a really good price (and I liked that I did not have to pay all of it at once.) I have read all ten and it was more than worth the price!!!
PS-Oh...if you were wondering who Bill is buy the first book and begin the adventure.
Great world-building and awesome dual storyline in this post-apocalyptic/renewal & rebuilding type of book.
It's about 35 years after the "Breakdown" (nuclear missiles worldwide, all hell broke loose, etc., etc., etc.). Since the nukes headed for the US were detonated in space, there is little bomb damage or fallout (not really believable, but it's not a big plot hole). The struggling survivors have slapdash governments and plans and such, but life pretty much sucks. A good group has an amazing town and life, but they keep hidden for obvious reasons. The protagonist stumbles onto it, and the backstory is great.
Big major problem is that this is probably only novella length, which is personally very annoying, and in order to make it great, probably 3 or 4 of the novellas in the continuing series need to be combined into one book each, and could make a great sequel or trilogy, depending on how far the author intends to take the series.
I sat for the last two days and read the remaining consecutive books in this outstanding series. LOVED the series, but hate the novellas. They need to be combined into one fantastic book.
To start off, this is not a full-length book but the second of a ten-part series of short stories it will take you less than an hour to read this one and each of the ten other stories. If you haven't read the first book of the series (Renewal without any of the numbers after it), you need to read that one first then progress in numerical order through #10.
Similar to the other books in the series, the author sets you into a futuristic (and believable) outlook of America several decades after a nuclear destruction of organized society, with frequent flashbacks / narrations of what happened immediately after to the surviving families. I could actually visualize the various scenes and situations, and found myself wondering "what if" or "what would I do" while reading not only this one, but the other stories in the series. The author does a good job of wetting your tastebuds and wanting a little more at the conclusion of the story - hence, let's go purchase the next book of the series. Overall, the series is very good and I highly recommend it.
I will point out I did read all ten of the stories of the series one right after the other as the series is good while good, it was a little annoying to having just strapped myself in to read for a while then finding the various stories ended and I had to go buy another. Mr. Perkins, if you are reading this review I would encourage you to put all ten stories into one edition and raise the price - your readers will thank you for it (and spend less money) while you will make more off of the 70% royalty!
